The Process

INITIAL CONSULTATION

A Recollections Personal Historian will meet with you at no charge to display Memory Book samples and discuss detailed wishes for your Memory Book. The initial consultation will provide you with an opportunity to express your goal for the book and allow us to further explain the process.
The consultation is also a time for us to get to know you and create relevant, interesting questions for later interviews.

INTERVIEWS

Your Memory Book can be written from a questionnaire via email, phone, mail or in person. The questions are designed to provoke memory and help you review your life or that of your loved ones. We will take all the time you need to have the questions answered and returned to us and will conduct several interviews as necessary. We will then transcribe the story in your own words or edit as requested.

Photographs in memory books

You will select your favourite photos and memorabilia to accompany the text of your Memory Book. These will be scanned and inserted into the relevant pages as part of our design process. The book can contain anything that is important to your family - writings, photographs, recipes, artwork, awards, certificates and medals. After scanning, we promptly return your keepsakes safely to you. You are also welcome to scan these materials yourself and email them to us, as you prefer.

PROOFING

We will send you a first draft of the text to proof and change as you desire. A second draft will be returned to you for final proofing before graphic design is begun. Changes made after graphic design is done will be charged at an additional fee according to the time involved.

DESIGN
We work on the graphic design with the client's wishes and the proofed text in mind. Original design will capture your family's character and reflect the words on the page. The layout will creatively express your experiences.
Each book is a unique work of art.

Your Memory Book will then be printed by professional printers on a durable, heavyweight paper and hand bound by a custom bookbinder. You may select a hard or soft cover book with gold or silver lettering, or with a dust jacket or photograph on the outside. Handcrafted, one-of-a-kind covers are also available. The finished product is an attractive keepsake for family and friends to cherish.
